  • November is Prematurity Awareness Month®

Support World Prematurity DayEach year in the United States, 1 in 8 babies is born too soon.

Babies who are born prematurely often face more than an early birthday. Many spend a lifetime struggling with disabilities and health problems. In the United States, premature birth is the leading cause of death among newborns. Around the world, more than a million babies die each year after being born too soon.

This November we are working with the March of Dimes to raise awareness and funds for programs that help moms have healthier babies. Prematurity Awareness Month kicks off on November 1 with the release of the fourth annual March of Dimes Premature Birth Report Card. And volunteers around the country will host activities to raise awareness of the serious global problem of premature birth.

To support our community’s moms and families, find out what you can do to host an event in the Youth Planning Guide. And on November 17, make sure you change your Facebook status to tell all your friends about the global issue of preterm birth, and invite them to get involved.

To learn more about premature birth and our combined efforts to fight the problem, go to marchofdimes.com.

  • Service and fellowship after graduation

Key Club Alumni Association Do More Week November 14-18The Key Club International Alumni Association was created to find new ways for alumni to serve after graduation, to connect with peers all over the world and to maintain a connection with Key Club. There is no cost for membership, and you can register online before you graduate at www.keyclub.org/alumni.

To promote awareness and recruit new members, the week of November 14 has been declared Do More Week. Each Key Club is asked to designate 15 minutes during a club meeting to promote the alumni association and allow members to join so your members can Do More as they move on to their next phase in life.

    There are five easy steps:
    1. Commit to support Do More Week.
    2. Add the Key Club Alumni Association to your agenda for the week of November 14.
    3. Share the alumni video and key messaging to all club members.
    4. Give seniors a chance to sign up.
    5. Let us know how it goes.

To make it easy, the complete campaign guide is available online.

With nearly 65,000 Key Clubbers graduating each year, we must work together to support these young people as they move forward in life.

  • Set the date to become One, Kiwanis

The one day each year that you circle in red on your calendar, empty your schedule and save for service has been set for 2012: Kiwanis One Day will be Saturday, April 21.

Take note, Kiwanis trivia buffs: To avoid conflicting with Easter and Passover, the 21st will be the latest in April that Kiwanis One Day has ever occurred. Check out how the entire Kiwanis family—Kiwanis Kids, Builders Club, Key Club, Circle K, Aktion Club and Kiwanis clubs—joined forces in the 2011 large-scale service project; the new video is online now at www.kiwanis.org/oneday.

For Kiwanis One Day, any project—big or small—is worth tackling, but you’ve only got eight months to get ready. Go!
