  • Keep an eye on (web) traffic

You invest a lot of time and effort into creating and updating your club or district website. Find out how all that work is working for you with Google Analytics. By using the data collected by this simple traffic-tracking tool, you can determine how and when visitors find your site, how long they stay and what content they like the most.

The Kiwanis International Web team has compiled a helpful how-to guide to Google Analytics. The guide includes instructions so clubs can set up a free Google Analytics account, install the application code on your club or district website (a two-click task if you subscribe to the KiwanisOne Club Management System) and use the data collected to engage website users more effectively. Download the guide at www.KiwanisOne.org/clubsitestats and get started today.

  • Set your sites on ‘ideal’

Kiwanis-family clubs and districts now have an example to follow when seeking to create the best website possible. There’s a model of an ideal club website, illustrating good navigation and appropriate content and images, at www.KiwanisOne.org/idealsite.

Using this example should make creating a site faster and easier for busy webmasters. The site also serves as an ongoing site management tool by illustrating proper formatting and content, which will be updated often, just like the best websites should be. Feel free to copy the content, including current information on Kiwanis One Day and The Eliminate Project, and personalize it for your own sites. Pick and choose sections to "borrow" for the programs that your club wants to promote online. That’s what it’s for!

  • Show your financial finesse

Your knowledge of financial topics and skill at making videos and web-based games could earn cash prizes up to US$1,000. In the Net Literacy Financial Connects contest, students from across the country are encouraged to submit short videos that teach a lesson about the importance of financial literacy and help their classmates have fun while learning. The contest is presented by the Net Literacy Alliance, a digital literacy nonprofit organization comprised of students, and State Farm Insurance.

Videos and interactive games can be developed by a student, a group of students or as a classroom project. The contest might  provide an opportunity to work together with a local Kiwanis club. Video entries win US$100 to US$500 and web-based games win US$500 to US$1,000, with more than US$100,000 distributed. Prizes will be awarded through the June 30 submission deadline. Following the contest, winning videos and games will be consolidated on the group’s site to serve as a resource for future learning. Find all the details at www.netliteracyalliance.org/financial-connects-contest.
