  • New Kiwanis Kids site soars

Live, from the World Wide Web: It’s a new home for kids in the Kiwanis family! Check out the newly revamped website, www.kiwaniskids.org, where you’ll find a shared landing page for K-Kids, Terrific Kids, Niños Destacados and Bring Up Grades.

This new landing page holds the information that applies to all the programs, such as mentoring tips, tutoring suggestions and how to find additional funds through business sponsorship, in navigation divided by Kiwanis family members, parents, educators and administrators. You can meet the K-Kids themselves, too; they give quite an inspiring message in the new motivational-promotional video on the “Discover” main page.

When you click through to each program’s site, you’ll find updated navigation to discover (program explanations), serve (service and fundraising projects for school and community), lead (information for you about how to lead their program) and resources (tools you need to establish and maintain each one). And, since Key Club and Circle K International clubs can serve as co-sponsors, each site has pages designed for them, too.

We’d love to hear what you think! Please stop by, look around and send us your thoughts on the new Kiwanis Kids site to kiwaniskids@kiwanis.org.

  • Not without the alums!

The Eliminate Project Charity Walk on June 30 attracted 1,400 Key Clubbers who were attending the Key Club International Convention in Phoenix. That turnout required a lot of volunteers—and Key Club alums stepped forward.

Along with alumni from Circle K International the volunteers helped walkers raise more than US$15,000 in the fundraising campaign for The Eliminate Project: Kiwanis eliminating maternal and neonatal tetanus. Volunteers split into teams to lead groups of walkers through the walk site, a golf course; cheered on participants and carried signs that highlighted the effects of MNT, inspiring others to get involved.

  • At district, drop in on The Eliminate Project

There’s a lot to do at your district convention but don’t forget to drop by the booth for The Eliminate Project: Kiwanis eliminating maternal and neonatal tetanus. There, you can learn more about the scourge that claims 60,000 babies a year plus pick up all the resources you’ll need to arm yourself in Kiwanis’ battle.

Here’s what you’ll get: a DVD with the social media toolkit, PR toolkit, service toolkit, fundraising toolkit, and electronic copies of all of the kit’s resources; printed materials including an informational piece, pocket guide, model club guide & FAQ; fundraising and recognition brochures; What You & Your Club Can Do; and pledge cards. You’ll also receive How To Use These Resources, which has instructions about each piece and how best to utilize the kit’s resources within your club and when promoting The Eliminate Project.

The kit also includes The Eliminate Project wristbands, cell phone screen cleaners, toothpick flags, and two tabletop posters for display. Get a preview at www.TheEliminateProject.org/resources.

  • Summer reading still

Kids from low-income families lose more than three times as much learning during summer as their middle-income peers; by fifth grade, they can be as much as two years behind in reading, according to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. But your Kiwanis-family club can easily make a difference this summer by joining with the Boys & Girls Clubs and Walmart in making a promise to read.

To make sure every kid starts the new school year ready to succeed, Boys & Girls Clubs have partnered with Walmart to provide books to kids this summer in exchange for your promise to read with a child. For every five promises made, Walmart will put a book in the hands of a child, up to 1,500 books total.

Help keep kids smart this summer by telling everyone you know to make a promise worth reading. Visit The Boys & Girls Club of America to make yours.
