  • Let’s do a little math

Here’s a very practical—and meaningful—application of your math skills: Let’s say that each year you raised enough money for The Eliminate Project to be personally responsible for saving three lives. At US$1.80 for a set of vaccines, how much would that be?

    US$1.80 x 3 lives = US$5.40

That’s pretty simple. Now multiply that times every member of every CKI club, Key Club, Builders Club, Aktion Club and K-Kids club and what do you have? Our Kiwanis-family goal met for The Eliminate Project.

So what do you think: does US$5.40 a year sound doable to you?

  • We’ve reached the US$1 million mark!

As of the end of November, members of CKI, Key Club, Builders Club, K-Kids and Aktion Club have donated more than US$1 million to The Eliminate Project. That translates to 555,555 lives saved or protected! But there’s much more work to be done: Keep up the effort to educate people about MNT and to raise funds.

Reaching our goal of eliminating MNT from the face of the Earth will take the efforts of every Kiwanis-family member—every CKI, Key Club, Builders Club, K-Kids and Aktion Club member—so that means you!

If you raised a minimum of US$5.40 a year—the equivalent of saving three lives (US$1.80 x 3 = US$5.40)—our Kiwanis-family fundraising goals would be met during our campaign’s remaining three years.

The SLP per-member average per year for the next three years is a minimum of US$5.40, which is the equivalent of saving or protecting more than three lives (US$1.80 x 3 = US$5.40). We need every member to raise at least $5.40. Women and their future babies are counting on you!

  • Wrapping up the holidays

Check out this holiday fundraiser, service project and fun event, all wrapped into one: gift-wrapping.  Here’s how:

    • Pick a busy weekend in early December.
    • Talk to management of a mall, discount store or department store about your gift-wrapping idea.
    • Set up a couple tables near an entrance.
    • Purchase a variety of gift wrap, ribbons, tags and tape.
    • Bring along scissors or other cutting tools.
    • Assign wrappers to two-hour shifts.
    • Offer to wrap gifts for a small donation to your Key Club (maybe $3–5, based on the size). Also a good idea as a fundraiser for The Eliminate Project.
    • Draw attention to your service by posting signs at all entrances, dressing in holiday gear—even elf-costumes—and singing carols while you wrap.

Everyone goes away merry: Just ask members of the Yonkers High School Key Club, who held their gift-wrapping event at a Barnes & Noble Bookstore. Shoppers can take their presents straight home from the store and put them under the tree. The club has new funds to work with. And wrappers get into the holiday spirit.

  • Get sponsored for convention!

The 70th Annual Key Club International Convention doesn’t start until July 2013, but now’s the perfect time to begin raising money to attend.

Have you heard of the one-third plan? Key Club International suggests you follow this formula to pay for your convention experience in Washington, D.C.

    • Pay one-third of the cost from your own fundraising efforts.
    • Ask your Key Club or school to help fundraise another one-third of the cost.
    • Talk to your sponsoring Kiwanis club or local businesses about sponsoring the final third.

Not sure where to start? No worries—Key Club International has created a sponsorship toolkit  with checklists, sample letters, PowerPoint templates and more to guide you step by step. Go to keyclub.org/convention, then click on the event sponsorship toolkit and PowerPoint presentation on the right-hand side of the page.
