Friends for Change "Get the Word Out" Action Plan

If you're organizing a service project, it's important to let your friends, family and community know what you're up to so they can pitch in and take steps to help your project succeed. The Get the Word Out action plan, created by Disney's Friends for Change in partnership with Youth Service America, will give you tips on how to promote your event. It includes tips on connecting with the media and elected officials, working with community partners and reflecting, demonstrating and celebrating your results.

KEY CLUB SERVICE DAY # 6

The Kiwanis Club of Liguanea St. Andrew, working with Key Clubs sponsored (Mona High School, Jamaica College and Merl Grove High School) to be joined by many other Key Clubs and Circle K Club members will execute Service Day 6, 2010 at Garland Home in St. James, Jamaica.

The Garland Home project is one operated by the Jamaica Baptist Union Women's Federation, where children who do not have a home or abused or even abandoned are able to stay at the Children's Home until they reach 18.  After 18 years of age, they may still remain residents at the Home until they have found employment and can afford to live on their own.

The Key Clubbers and the Service Team will carry out a project to paint sections of the home, create or maintain the garden (green space), plant trees and carry out a "Pop and Rock" Concert party to celebrate Christmas with the chilren who are residents at the home.

Other projects will be done in St. James:

    1.  Visit to the Golden Age Home or the St. James Parish Infirmary senior citizens and donate toiletries, tin food and provide some help out at the facility.

    2.  Environmental Beautification project - to clean sections of the community of Montego Bay and its beach and gather the debris for collection by the National Solid Waste Management Authority for disposal.

    3.  Solicit Tinned food from shoppers in the commercial district of Montego Bay, after making display boothes of how Key Clubs and Kiwanis help the world through our community service projects.

    4.  Donate coins collected from the Key Clubbers to the Jamaica Baptist Union of Chuches for the Garland Home project, with the funds collected airmarked to provide food and toiletries for the residents at the home.

Date of Project:  Saturday December 18, 2010
Project Execution:  Assemble in Montego Bay at Kentucky Fried Chicken for 10:30 am

    Project time:  10 30am - 12:30 pm
