Be positive and enthusiastic about the start of school.

Give your child a countdown to the start of school.

Get a sense of how your child feels about returning to or starting school.

If your child is excited, join him or her in the excitement.

If your child is worried, be reassuring.

If your child is anxious, visit his or her classroom beforehand.

If you’re dropping your child off for his or her first day of school, don’t sneak out; say goodbye with a hug and a reminder you will be there to pick him or her up (if appropriate).
