Service sung with a Jamaican beat

With an assembly of national recording stars, the New Kingston, Jamaica, Kiwanis club professes to the world that children are their “priority one.”

The club, in association with UNICEF Jamaica, produced a music video titled It’s Your Turn. The song’s chorused message—“protect our children; treat them right”—passes through some impressive pipes, such as:

• The “Reggae Matriarch” Marcia Griffiths

• Pianist, songwriter, balladeer Suzanne Couch

• Nadine Sutherland, who one music critic describes as “the most successful Jamaican female singer of her generation”

Reminiscent of the 1984 Do They Know It’s Christmas and 1985’s We Are the World recordings, It’s Your Turn features swelling, inspiring vocals, accompanied by scenes of Jamaican youth dancing, Kiwanians reading to children, and Jamaica’s best singers in the recording studio.
