Name: Ariana Lee

Preferred name (nick name): Ari Lee

Pronouns: She/her

District: Capital District

Hometown: Newport News, Virginia, U.S.

Key Club name: Woodside High School Key Club

Year in school: 12

Why did you join Key Club? I initially joined Key Club, like many, to follow the crowd — to be a part of an organization that facilitated the establishment of long-lasting friendships.

However, as the benefits of this organization were revealed, I learned that Key Club was more than the friendships it could offer me — it became my life.

Past Key Club International leadership experience: Freshman class representative, sophomore class representative, lieutenant governor.

Why did you decide to run for the international board? Coming from a smaller club, I often felt that my voice was not heard on the international level; thus, I decided to run for the international board to act as the voice for those who were previously silenced. Through my initiatives in fostering efficient communication and the acknowledgment of differing perspectives, I wanted to make Key Club a more inclusive organization.

What are you most looking forward to this year? It is a true honor to be a part of this organization during its centennial year.

I am looking forward to witnessing the 100-year anniversary of this organization: March 23, 2025.

What do you like most about Key Club International? I love how devoted every member of Key Club is to aiding their community —thousands of students coming together with a common goal: service.

What is your favorite Key Club memory and why? A “core” Key Club memory is of creating a native garden outside of my school — an initiative that promoted a welcoming environment while simultaneously teaching students the importance of nature. Even on the last day of school, my committee and I dug dirt and planted flowers while we watched the school buses drive away.

What is your career ambition? I hope to pursue a career that is at the intersection between journalism and political science.

Hobbies outside of Key Club: I love fashion! I am always researching the latest trends, repurposing my old clothes and updating my closet.

Favorite book: Women, Race, and Class

Favorite food or snack: Extra Cheddar Goldfish!

Favorite animal: Leopard

Somewhere you would like to visit in the future: I would love to visit my family in Panamá!

What is something people may not know about you? I am a massive history nerd!

What is the best advice ever given to  you? “Good, better, best; never let it rest. Until your good becomes better and your better becomes best.”

What did you want to be when you grew up? I want to become a political journalist.
