By Key Club International Trustee Ava Stamatakis
Last year, Key Club began a partnership with Schoolhouse.world, a nonprofit that connects students around the world for free peer-to-peer tutoring online. Anyone can become a tutor, and Schoolhouse.world provides the certification, training and community to help students become tutors. You can also join Schoolhouse.world as a learner. In either position, you are improving your own content mastery, building leadership skills and creating a portfolio that colleges will value.
This year, over 4,100 Key Club members have signed up with Schoolhouse.world, and we currently have 200-plus active tutors. The Key Club International Board would like to continue this growth by announcing our upcoming 2023 Schoolhouse.world Tutor-a-Thon event and encourage each of you to join in.
From April 1 to May 31, each Key Club district will compete for the top spot on the tutoring leaderboard. District points will be tracked live on the Schoolhouse.world website, and the winning district will be recognized online in June and during the international convention in July. Also, tutors from the winning district will receive special rewards, so be sure to participate!
As a Key Club member, you can contribute points to your district’s score by either being a learner or tutor. Each hour of tutoring gains 10 points, while each hour of learning gains five points. For tutors, any subject area is valid for earning points. Every month on Instagram (@keyclubint), we’ll highlight the top three Key Club members who have held the most Schoolhouse.world tutoring sessions.
Boost your studying for final and advanced placement exams by teaching others during the Tutor-a-Thon. Or, if you need some extra help yourself, join a Schoolhouse.world tutoring session to get advice. We hope each of you will be inspired to support Schoolhouse.world’s mission of universal education.
The Key Club International Board is so excited to work with each of you to improve education for students around the world!
